Speech

The Ultimate Circle of Nigeria was founded in 1988 by a group of friends whose paths had crossed from secondary school to the University and generally in life at such towns as Ile-Ife, Ibadan, Osogbo and Lagos. It was however registered under the LAND (perpetual succession) ACT, CAP. 98 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in January 1991.

The philosophy behind its formation was the desirability and necessity to put in place a formal body to channel all the benefits of brotherhood and mutual friendship and to serve as an umbrella holding all together with the gains derivable therefrom permeating the different families, both nuclear and extended.

Thus, “the promotion of family interaction to the benefit and success of members for many generations yet to come” had been the main “Mission Statement” of the club.

In furtherance to this mission statement is the compelling visionary guide/statement for the current club year, i.e. ‘To lift the club to a stronger and a unique level focused on providing creative solutions to member’ problems with brotherly commitment and achieving responsible and excellent membership growth”.

UCN is essentially a social, philanthropic and welfarist club.

The club’s social activities in any peculiar year usually include; House Calls made in-turns to members’ homes by members’ families; children Picnic held at selected exotic beaches; Presidential Wives’ Dinner usually hosted by the incumbent president’s family; “Cell-meetings” held at the clubs temporary Club-house at LUTH, Idi-Araba every Thursday where members gather and interact socially; Obligatory attendance at members’ social gatherings to which the club has been invited and the President’s Nite usually held at the end of the year prior to the club’s Annual General Meeting.

Its philanthropic activities have always been focused on visits and donations to orphanages; old people’s homes and welfare homes where items such as required drugs; food items and clothing materials are donated.

As a welfare club, it embarks on organizing such events, projects and packages that had catered for and would continue to be to the benefit of members and their families. Such events include “Retreat” for its members; a forum for delivery of lectures and brainstorming sessions on carefully selected topical issues where resolutions and decisions bordering on the well being and the future of the individual club member, their families and that of the collective existence of the club, are taken. Adolescent/children’s seminar on HIV, AIDS Virus was also planned to be attended by members’ wards.

The club also runs a “Group life” and “Group Accident” insurance policy cover on its members apart from the Thrift and Credit Society which is being run and is subscribed to by all members, as a matter of obligation. As a form of assistance to members, financial gifts are presented to members in commemoration of special events in their lives.

Active membership of the club now stands at twenty-seven (27). Meanwhile, the club hopes to replenish its membership for its growth and development, nevertheless with quality people. Membership is however open to all male Nigerians provided they are above 25 years of age, very literate, matured/disciplined in mind and in deed and usefully engages in any aspect of lawful human endeavour provided that such candidate is sponsored by at least two (2) members of not less than two (2) years of membership status and subject to the confirmation of such new membership by a majority decision of the Annual General Meeting.

The business of the club is undertaken under a democratic but disciplined setting with the elected President presiding at all meetings with assistance from his executive committee members and guided by the provisions of the clubs Constitution and Rules and Bye-laws.

It is therefore, gratifying to confirm that with these background and settings, the club has been growing in strength and achievement.
